Hate to say it because it sounds really pessimistic, but I get the impression that human evolution is like two steps forward, one step back, so on and so forth. We live under a cycle of fight/resist, win, relative peace, complacency, stupidity and/or brutality, shock, fight/resist, win…and with every cycle we learn to be a bit more efficient and broad minded as a species. However, when it takes that faltering, fear induced reactionary step backwards, our species depends on progressives to resist and push the momentum forward again. That is why we may forever be fighting for change, because until our species can evolve to be largely (rather than a smallish segment at the end of the bell curve) accommodating, compromising, sharing, live and let live, peace seeking, reflective, empathetic creatures, we will forever be locked in this push pull cycle. Depending upon your spiritual beliefs (or lack thereof) we could be progressing towards something or we are simply existing in a limbo of perpetual (r)evolution - a story of time that humans will either grow with or vanish from. I don’t mean to sound smug or self-congratulatory - this isn’t a pat yourselves on the backs progressives moment, this is simply my personal observation on the ebbs and flows of life systems (also called midnight ramblings).
I could talk about this shit for hours…forgive me, lol.
